It opens on the question the whole module is built to answer: whether a man is accountable if he is an animal, and if he is only a higher animal, what forgiveness is even for. The man of the state, and the servant of the state. The dream-soul, and where it appears in the astral light.

Then the causes, named without softening: ignorance, abandonment, poverty, and the lack of intelligent caring friends. Crime and Punishment sits inside the module, and so does Oliver Twist — both of them there to be read rather than admired. The riddle of evil in the present time, and the riddle of choices. The time of evil and death. It ends in redemption: the purification fire of the soul, the blood of the lamb, and the way out.

Two weeks with it. Long enough to go through the whole module more than once, which is how these are usually taken.
